Scholarships and Internships


The Brevard Federated Republican Women [BFRW] sponsored two, local tributes in memory of the former BFRW Legislative Chairperson, The Lillian Banks Legislative Memorial $1,000 Scholarship and in memory of the former BFRW Treasurer, The Barbara Davis Leadership $1,000 Scholarship.   Complete scholarship information may be found on the BFRW website: www.brevardfederatedrepublicanwomen.org.  

This year, the BFRW Scholarship Committee encountered an unprecedented situation in that it had received several, stellar applicants who possessed outstanding grades, two students were Home Schooled, students completed Dual Enrollments, excelling in two years of college courses, volunteer hours while managing employment schedules. The students are active, staunch Republicans, which both Lillian and Barbara would be amazed!

The BFRW is proud to announce that four (4) high school students, Grace Sadoff, twin sisters, Elisabeth Hope and Hallie Grace Gough, and Braden T. Spurlock were chosen as the 2019 Scholarship Recipients, by the BFRW Executive Committee, at its June 6, 2019 special meeting.

Grace Sadoff, graduated from Bayside High, received the “BFRW $1,000 Scholar Award.”  This Fall, Grace is continuing her college education, at The University of Northern Florida, majoring in Criminal Justice.

Twin sisters, Elisabeth Hope and Hallie Grace Gough, were Home Schooled and selected to share The Barbara Davis Leadership Memorial $1,000 Scholarship. This Fall, they will continue their college education at Eastern Florida State College; Hope is pursuing a Nursing Degree and Hallie Grace...an Actuarial Science Degree.

Braden T. Spurlock, graduated from Satellite High, and received The Lillian Banks Legislative Memorial $1000 Scholarship. He has been accepted to attend Southern Virginia University, majoring in Political Science, beginning in the Fall, this year.

National Pathinder Scholarship

The National Federation of Republican Women established the National Pathfinder Scholarship Fund in 1985 in honor of First Lady Nancy Reagan. The three annual scholarships of $2,500 provide financial assistance and support to students seeking undergraduate or graduate degrees. Undergraduate sophomores, juniors and seniors, as well as students enrolled in a master's degree program, are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Recent high school graduates and undergraduate freshmen are not eligible. Scholarship winners may not reapply.

Completed applications should be forwarded to the Brevard Federated Republican Women, P.O. Box 410143, Melbourne, Florida, 32941, and emailed to Diane Norwood-Steven at grandkids80@gmail.com  by April 15 of every year. BFRW will select one application to be forwarded to the Florida Federation of Republican Women. The state federation then selects one winner to be forwarded to the national federation for consideration. NFRW makes the final determination.

Betty Rendel Scholarship

The National Federation of Republican Women established the Betty Rendel Scholarship Fund in September 1995 in honor of NFRW Past President Betty Rendel's extraordinary leadership skills and dedication to the Republican Party in her home state of Indiana, as well as at the national level. The three annual scholarships of $1,000 are awarded to undergraduates who are majoring in political science, government or economics and have successfully completed at least two years of college coursework. The recipients are chosen from applicants from across the nation. Scholarship winners may not reapply.

Completed applications should be forwarded to the Brevard Federated Republican Women, P.O. Box 410143, Melbourne, Florida, 32941, and emailed to Diane Norwood-Steven at grandkids80@gmail.com by April 15 of every year. BFRW will select one application to be forwarded to the Florida Federation of Republican Women. Dorothy Andrews Kabis Memorial Intership

The Dorothy Andrews Kabis Memorial Internship honors the former president of the NFRW (1963-67) who later was appointed U.S. treasurer by President Richard Nixon. The internship gives young undergraduates the opportunity to spend part of the summer working at national headquarters in Alexandria, Va. It includes a small monetary allowance, roundtrip airfare to and from Washington, D.C., and housing in the D.C. metropolitan area.

Applicants must be at least a junior in college or a college student 21 years of age or older. They should have a general knowledge of government, a keen interest in politics, campaign experience, and sufficient clerical office skills that are adaptable to a busy office. Internship recipients may not reapply.
